It’s that time of year…

I had lots of ideas I wanted to share with you, but as I'm man-down at the moment with a horrible cough and chills, I thought, what better time to let you in on some of the remedies I've been using to get me through? I'm hoping you'll have a wonderfully healthy Christmas, but if you should get ill,  there's a few things you can try:

Sip on some Ginger Tea – ginger contains some unique anti-inflammatory compounds that help soothe sore throats and inflamed airways. Adding the juice of half a lemon and half a teaspoon of raw honey will give you a hit of vitamin C and antioxidants – both great for your immune health

The steam from a hot shower can help loosen any mucus and keep airways moist. This is particularly helpful if you have an unproductive or dry cough. Similarly, inhaling steam over a bowl of hot water has the same effect.

Gargling with salt water can help reduce the irritation and hoarseness associated with excess coughing

Lemon home remedies

Pineapple contains bromelain, an anti-inflammatory compound which also has been shown to help break down and expel mucus. So it's great to eat if you are suffering from a dry cough, bronchitis or sinusitis. Perfect for a smoothie if solid food seems like too much.

Speaking of solid food, blended soups and bone broth are both great ways of ramping up your nutrient intake without having to eat a heavy meal. They also help replenish fluids and electrolytes.

Mediterranean herbs such as thyme, oregano and rosemary are chock-a-block with antioxidants as well as being anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial. You can make them into teas or add them to your favourite soup recipe.

REST – not the easiest at this time of year, with so much going on, but SO important. In fact, probably the MOST important. Allowing ourselves to rest gives our bodies a chance to heal and repair. So grab a good book, a hot water bottle and your favourite blanket and curl up on the sofa for a while.

Wishing you a wonderfully happy Christmas and a healthy New Year.

With love x
